We drove 3 hours and then stayed at the Holiday inn for the night. We were awakened in the night by noises from another room. As I contemplated my complaint I tried to identify the noise. It was a banging off and on for 10 or 15 minutes then the sound of breaking glass and everything got quiet. A few minutes later the phone rang. The caller told us there was an emergancy in the hotel and I needed to put a wet towel at the door. I thought the hotel was on fire and we were trapped in the room for a while. But it wasn' t a fire. The man on the phone told me that one of the hotel workers was in the basement of the hotel doing laundry and they broke a gas pipe. He asked if the TV or microwave or anything was on. Nothing was on. We had been sleeping. We would have to open the windows for ventilation. Since the windows were sealed shut we had to break them open. He suggested using a sturdy stool. What I grabbed was an end table. The 4 legs were each about 3 inches square. It took several attempts to break the window because the glass was about 1/4 inch thick. Two legs broke off the end table at that final blow. The caller asked how many windows were broken. Just the one on the right I told him. He said I would need to break the one on the left also. Some other guests had used the TV which I needed to get out of there anyway. I told him if I throw the TV out the window it would hit cars. He said I would have to do it but to try and not hit the cars. I went over to look at the TV which was larger than the window. I went back to the phone intending to hang up on the man and call the front desk to make sure this was a legit call. The man was gone. I hung up and then called the front desk. No answer. a minute later the phone rang again. It was the front desk. They asked "Is this the room with the broken glass?" I told them it was that I'd been told there was a gas leak. He said he'd be right up. He came up and looked at the room. We followed him down stairs. 2 Men were there from the sherrif's office talking to a lady who I think is the manager. I asked for some paper to write a statement so I could get it all written before I forgot. I could hear them discussing that this was a prank call and the guy was still calling. The front desk did not let the calls go to rooms. in a few minutes I heard the sherrif talking on the phone to the caller. He asked for the caller's name. Then he kept calling the caller "Terminator" because that's what the caller identified himself as. By the time I finished my statement there was a local policeman in the lobby too. It was about midnight and the hotel gave us another room. The people from down stairs who also broke the window got a new room also. Mr Terminator called back and said he felt bad and wanted to turn himself in so the sherrif spoke to him. Wife had to get up at 5:30 the next morning because she had to go sit in a classroom for 5 hours and take a battery of tests to get certified for the job she wants. She was so tired she did not do her best on the tests. It will be another month before we get results. I guess the prankster had fun and maybe posted the calls to UTube or somewhere but now will have to pay for the damage. About 1000 dollars, maybe more.

At least that's your story and you're sticking to it. LOL At least a plane didn't crash into your room. Ever wonder why such crazy things happen to you? I do!
I'm glad you didn't have to pay for it all!
When my son was 3 we thought he had a terminal disease. I asked God why should this happen to us? The answer seemed to be "because we of all people could handle it" It seems He continues to equip us with whatever patience, humor, strength, courage, etc to get thru any situation.
