We do nothing but complain that nothing is being done.

Congress is responsible for the current debt ceiling crises. They make the laws concerning how much the government spends. They are responsible to ensure the money is there to pay the bills. If America wants big governement they will continue to elect democrats and republicans to office. The Democrats will tax and spend. The Republicans will borrow and spend. Once a program is in place it is nearly impossible to end it. We the people are really to blame for this mess our country is in. Most of the people don' t even pay attention to politics. They don't know what the problems are and they don't know what the solutions are. But the folks who vote feel patriotic for doing so and they don't even know what the repercussions are. And they don't care. There are more important things for them to be concerned about. They elect people to take care of goverment stuff so they don't have to. So it is up to the few informed concerned citizens to take control of this situation. It is up to us to inform the masses of the consequences of elections. Our greatest enemy is going to ruin our great country and that is the ignorance and apathy of the people who stand by while power loving politicians do us great harm. It is not time to pay the piper yet. You soon will see that the current crises will pass by with hardly a notice. It will be business as usual in Washington and the minions will go back to their daily chores.

Your post makes me think about how too many people let their pastor take care of their spiritual stuff much the same way that they let representatives take care of government stuff.

But on the other side of the coin, I am thankful for our system that allows us to elect representatives. Honestly, as a young mother with babies, my life was so full and busy, I NEEDED someone to go to Washing for me because I did have "more important" things peeing, pooping, crying,... During some seasons, life is over whelming. Even now, it's all I can do sometimes to make it from one day to the next with the responsibilities and "duties" I have. It's not that I don't care about what is going on in the Government, but there are not enough hours in the day for me to read everything there is to read and listen to everything there is to listen to so that I can know and understand everything that is going on in the world and piece it all together so as to know every possible repercussion. We all have our place and our calling and our assignments in this life.
Thanks for keeping us patriotic feeling voters informed. We need people like you! :)
